Handyman/Maintenance

A full time handy person will be most suited to large estates in which external buildings, equipment and fencing need regular upkeep. The candidate will also tend to the internal house, to ensure it’s fixtures and fittings are working and in good order. As skilled professionals, they will have a number of different trades under their belt meaning that they will be able to identify and fix many problems in the first instance, and if not, then hire the correct professional for the job.

Experience

Handymen will have at least 5 years’ experience working in a similar role.

Qualifications

They will offer care and maintenance using their  training and experience in an array of trades such as plumbing, carpentry, painting and gardening.

Certificates in:

Chainsaw and related machinery

Competence of safe use and maintenance of telescopic forklift

Safe use of ladders and access equipment

Health and Safety in the workplace

Competency in the use of hand and power tools, ride-on mowers and brush cutters

Live-in salaries

Range from £500+ net per week typically for an 8-10 hour day, (Varies during winter months) Monday to Friday

Live-out salaries

Range from £575+ net per week typically for up to a 10 hour day, Monday to Friday

Duties

Duties can include all or most of the following depending on your requirements:

Handyman Household Staff Agency, Staff of Distinction

Build and Create :

Create a suggested planting plan

Build raised beds and herb gardens

Grow plants from seed within kitchen garden and formal garden

Redesign vegetable garden and perennial borders

Tree planting

Build fencing and general DIY tasks

Cultivate a glasshouse or kitchen garden to produce fresh fruit and vegetables

For the Interior 

Management of building contractors

General house maintenance including maintaining fire safety and smoke detector 

Fire safety compliance

Manage heating, air con, energy and ventilation systems

Repair furniture

Assist with pet care 

For the Exterior :

Work with the Principals and their Architect to create long term plans

Provide site security of grounds

Clearing gutters and replacing if necessary

Paint exterior walls as and when required

Repoint buildings and paving

Refill oil reserves

Cleaning of septic tank

Care of cars and vehicles including tractors, quad bikes, golf buggies

Maintain garden equipment

Care of generators

Woodland management

Maintain and care for swimming pool(s)

Pressure wash large paved areas including tennis courts

Saw and split firewood

Care of animals

Order and collect animal feeds/supplies

Oversee tradesman and deliveries

Repair and upkeep of gates and fences

Refurbish outdoor furniture
